Another free piece of technology that is a fit for Geometry is GeoGebra. GeoGebra’s mission “is to give every student the chance to experience the extraordinary insights that make math possible.” GeoGebra is tangible for students; supports teachers in planning engaging inquiry based lesson and helps increase student success. GeoGebra has many free materials that can be downloaded and used immediately for demonstration purpose or for student exploration. Here is a small sample of the wealth of materials that teachers have shared in the community space. GeoGebra can be used on tablets, computers and soon will be able to be used on phones.
Technology can help teach Common Core Geometry because it allows students the ability to see theorems in action through the animation of applets. In addition technology can also allow students the ability to manipulate hypothesis statements to see what conclusions can be drawn. As I explore the Common Core Geometry more, I will also explore how technology can support the learning process and make it more meaningful for students and the teacher alike.
