PARCC Updates
The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is a consortium of 22 states plus the U.S. Virgin Islands working together to develop a common set of K-12 assessments in English and math anchored in what it takes to be ready for college and careers. PARCC received an $186 million grant through the U.S. Department of Education's Race to the Top assessment competition to support the development and design of the next-generation assessment system. New York State is a governing state in the consortium.
NEW!! A presentation on PARCC Updates was given at the October Board of Regents meeting at which the BOR determined that NYS would not participate in PARCC assessments for the 2014-2015 school year and a determination about when participation would happen was held until a later date. The reasons cited for this delay are inadequate technology, longer administration times, and higher costs. Field testing will continue and New York will remain part of the PARCC consortium. No matter what, districts should continue to prepare for eventual computer-based testing, whether PARCC or NYS assessments are administered.
