Assessment & Data
Assessment can take on many forms: from simple interactions between teacher and students during instruction to homework, projects to more formal tests and quizzes. The work of the IES is to support teachers along that continuum of assessment: enhancing assessment literacy, developing local assessment items and understanding the New York State assessment system.
Assessment produces data - both qualitative and quantitative - which can be used to inform instruction. Though teachers have always examined student work as part of their grading process, the new focus on accountability and standards has driven a more structured and collaborative examination of student work during Inquiry Team meetings.
