When you enter the door to the school you are struck by the vision statement “Every day, Every child, Every minute counts.” It is with this vision in mind that Dr. Ormsby has spent the last three years learning about all components of the reform agenda and supporting her students and teachers through this time of change.
Dr. Ormsby's “Shelfie” is evidence of her work in leading her school and building the culture that can work through change.
Culture matters and building it takes strong leadership and vision. The evidence captured on this day couldn’t have happened without the instructional leadership, the lead learning, and the resiliency of Dr. Lauren Ormsby. She continues to build a culture that can move through change and improve learning for students. School culture is intangible but not undefinable says Michael Haberman in his article entitled “Why School Culture Matters, and How to Improve it” and culture is even more important in times of change. As Peter Drucker is known for saying, "Culture eats strategy for breakfast!"
My “Twitter Day” is only the tip of the iceberg, there is much more I wasn’t able to capture but deserves to be recognized. Twitter gave Dr. Ormsby and I a vehicle to open Ripley’s doors to the world and connect to other educators about the work being done in her district. I invite all school leaders to take on this challenge and tweet to celebrate your school! You never know who might be inspired by your culture.
